Gender Inequality (5 Lessons)

Lesson 1: Gender & Toys

In this lesson, children will discuss whom they think would like different toys and their own toy preferences. They will also survey the class about their preferences before discussing gendered patterns that emerge.

Lesson 2: Gender & Friendships pt.1

In this lesson, children will discuss which traits they feel are important in a friend. They will think of boys and girls that they know who have these traits and will discuss how both girls and boys can be good friends.

Lesson 3: Gender & Friendships pt.2

In this lesson, children will continue to talk about why they like a best friend and go on to talk about which traits they want to have. They will compare whether there are gender differences in the traits they picked.

Lesson 4: Gender & Jobs pt.1

In this lesson, children will guess which person does each job and will discuss which skills they think are needed for each job. They will also discuss whether any jobs can only be held by men or only by women.

Lesson 5: Gender & Jobs pt.2

In this lesson, children will explore whether TV characters' jobs are gender stereotyped as well as discuss examples that defy gender stereotypes.

Gender for Years 1-2 (2 lessons)

Lesson 1: Gender & Emotions

In this lesson, children will discuss what is meant by gender and the emotions associated with boys and girls.

Lesson 2: Gender Stereotypes

In this lesson, children will discuss stereotypes about boys and girls, and whether this extends to emotions.

Lesson 3: Breaking Gender Stereotypes

In this lesson, children will discuss the common stereotype that pink is for girls and blue is for boys, and why this is not true.

Lesson 4: Gender & Jobs

In this lesson, children will discuss the skills needed to do different jobs and whether they feel both boys and girls can do each job.
