Activities Children Do (1 lesson)
In this lesson, the children will discuss their favourite activity with a partner. They will discuss activities that they would like to do but they have not done because they are stereotyped for the other gender.
Toys and Packaging (2 lessons)
Lesson 1 - In this lesson, children will discuss which toys they think are for boys or girls and how toy companies try to promote gender stereotypes.
Lesson 2 - In this lesson, children will discuss making packaging gender-neutral and how this can be done.
Jobs and Roles (3 lessons)
Lesson 1 – In this lesson, children will complete a Venn diagram task where they categorize adjectives, jobs, domestic roles, and childcare as for ‘men’, ‘women’, or ‘both men and women’. They will then compare diagrams with their peers and talk about what influenced their decisions.
Lesson 2 – In this lesson, children will have circle time in single-gender groups and discuss what they as a girl/boy they are expected to act.
Lesson 3 – To expand on the last lesson, in their groups, children will create posters about what they would like to stop happening to boys or girls and what they would like the world to know about boys or girls. They will compare the similarities and differences before talking about how we can try to prevent gender roles and stereotypes.
