Lesson 1: What are our interests?

In this lesson, children will discuss how boys and girls can show interests.

Lesson 2: Who shares our interests?

In this lesson, children learn what is meant by “gender” and “sex”. They will also talk about how men and women can share interests.

Gender & Jobs (3 lessons)

Lesson 1: Gender & Jobs pt.1

In this lesson, children will discuss their future aspirations and which jobs they would or would not want to do. They will also talk about how there are gender differences in careers and why this occurs.

Lesson 2: Gender & Jobs pt.2

In this lesson, children will watch a video about how certain jobs are gender stereotyped to be for men. They will then discuss how women can do these jobs and whether the lesson has challenged their opinions of possible future jobs.

Lesson 3: Gender & Jobs pt.3

In this lesson, children will discuss traditional gender roles/jobs and whether these should be challenged.

Gender Stereotypes in Books (1 lesson)

Lesson 1: Gender Stereotypes in Books
In this lesson, children will have a look at different types of books aimed at boys and girls. They will rank the books from those contributing to gender stereotypes through to those which are not. They will also consider whether upon knowing about stereotypes and the contents of the books, they would be more likely to reconsider their reading choices.

In this lesson, children will discuss how jobs for men and women have changed over the years and what jobs they would like to do when they’re older. 

Lesson 2: Gender Identity

In this lesson, children will learn about the terms ‘binary’ and ‘non-binary’ and discuss how gender is not as clear cut. 

Lesson 3: Gendered Adjectives

In this lesson, children will discuss the adjectives associated with each gender. 

Lesson 4: Gender Vocabulary

In this lesson, children will learn about the vocabulary around sex, gender, identity and sexuality. 

Lesson 5: Gender Pronouns

In this lesson, children will learn about gender pronouns.
